Hello, I've been a Delta Flight Attendant for nearly 18 years. My friends and colleagues know me by Palmer.

Following a Facebook post that some thought was against the company's social media policy, I am no longer employed with the airline. This is just the beginning.

My career pivot is forced to turn; the threat to freedom of speech and expression is just beginning to twist, at Delta and elsewhere. I will make the best decisions for myself at the moment, and am already taking the opportunity to choose what's best for myself and my family.

It's embarrassing to ask, yet this is will continue to test my financial and mental health. I will need help. It is anyone's guess how long this will drag on. In the meanwhile, I've been out of work, without pay.

My freedom to express myself shouldn't be beholden to my employment. And neither should yours, even when we disagree. This decision is a disgusting overreach that will only introduce more trigger words and actions into the workplace. It must stop, and my separation from the company won't be enough: others will find themselves exactly where I sit, unemployed.

If and as you're able, I ask you to consider a financial contribution. I vow to use those responsibly to fight the company, the government that pulls their strings, and for our rights, something that shouldn't be a surprise to anyone. This is not right. The ability to express yourself freely is being hijacked.

Regardless, protect yourself. Know your rights, especially those your employer takes away once you clock in. And, NEVER CAPITULATE to anyone who tries to silence you.
