The Greatest Gift We Can Give
"The gift of Dhamma excels all gifts."
— The Buddha (Dhammapada 354)
More than 2,500 years ago, the Buddha taught that the greatest gift we can offer another person is the gift of Dhamma.
In today's world, one of the most practical ways this gift can be shared is through wholesome education.
Education has the power to transform a life. But academics alone is not enough.
A person may possess great knowledge, yet still cause harm through greed, anger and delusion. Throughout history, many conflicts and challenges have not arisen from a lack of intelligence, but from a lack of morality and wisdom.
Wholesome education serves to nurture wise person.
It teaches students how to think, how to act, and how to speak correctly.
This belief is at the heart of Pal Buddhist School.
As Australia's first and only Buddhist primary and high school, our vision is:
"To create a noble, systematic Buddhist school that nurtures future wholesome leaders with a selfless purpose to light up the world."
Every day, our students learn that success is built upon three foundations:
Morality. Discipline. Wisdom.
When morality is developed, students learn responsibility, integrity and respect.
When discipline is developed, students learn perseverance, resilience and self-control.
When morality and discipline are cultivated together, wisdom begins to arise.
With wisdom enhances the qualities of compassion, loving-kindness, selfless joy and equanimity that the world desperately needs today
These are not merely Buddhist ideals.
They are human qualities that help create stronger families, healthier communities and a more harmonious world.
A School Is Like A Hospital
When people are physically ill, they seek the help of doctors and nurses.
Society rightly admires hospitals because they relieve suffering and save lives.
Yet there is another form of suffering that often goes unnoticed.
The suffering caused by ignorance.
This is why our founding principal, Mr Panha Pal, often describes a school as a hospital.
Teachers are not only educators. They are caretakers of the mind and heart.
Every day they work to cure, heal, and prevent, the causes of suffering before they become lifelong problems.
The work of wholesome education extends far beyond the classroom.
When one child develops morality, discipline and wisdom, their family, community and Future generations benefit - light up the world.
A Vision Built By One Man's Dream
Pal Buddhist School was not established by wealthy benefactors, large organisations or government initiatives.
Behind it is the vision of one man, student of the Buddha, who believed that education could change the world.
Mr Panha Pal arrived in Australia as a refugee after fleeing the hardships and suffering brought about by war. Having experienced firsthand the consequences of ignorance, conflict and the absence of wholesome values.
For many years, he carried a simple but powerful dream: to establish a school that would not only teach academic knowledge, but also nurture morality, discipline and wisdom.
At the time, many people believed such a vision would not produce a high performing academic school. There were no large investors and wealthy sponsors. Yet Mr Pal remained steadfast in his belief that if children could be guided to become good human beings first, academic success and meaningful lives would naturally follow.
What began as a small idea has grown into Australia's first and only Buddhist primary and high school, serving students and families from diverse backgrounds. But for Mr Pal, the mission has never been about buildings, rankings or recognition. It has always been about helping the individuals in front of him to develop the qualities needed to reduce suffering.
Today, the Leppington Campus represents the next chapter of that dream. A dream that began with one person's determination and a niche Buddhist community.
Many doubted that a school prioritising morality could achieve outstanding academic results. Mr Pal proved otherwise. In 2026, Pal Buddhist School was awarded the title of the highest-performing affordable independent school in NSW and the ACT and the second highest-performing in Australia.
The Next Chapter
We know that more families are seeking an education that develops not only the mind, but also the heart.
To meet this growing need, we are working towards building our new campus in Leppington.
Situated on a 3-acre site, the future campus will provide space for 16 classrooms, a library, science laboratories, music and art studios, student amenities, a multipurpose hall, and other essential learning facilities.
But this project is about far more than buildings.
It is about creating a place where thousands of students can develop morality, discipline and wisdom for generations to come. A place where families can access a wholesome education that nurtures both morality and academic excellence.
As a minority community in Australia, we do not have access to the financial backing available to many larger institutions. That is why we are turning to the wider community and inviting you to become part of this journey.
How You Can Help
To bring this vision to life, we need to raise $25 million.
It is an ambitious goal. But history has shown that extraordinary things become possible when ordinary people unite behind a meaningful purpose.
Just as a single candle can light a thousand others without losing its own flame, every act of generosity helps bring this vision closer to reality.
Consider this:
If 200,000 people chose to forgo just one $10 coffee each month and instead donated that amount to this project, together they would contribute more than $24 million over a year.
For those who are in a position to give more, a donation of $1,000 would mean we need only 25,000 supporters to reach our goal.
The future of Pal Buddhist School will not be built by a handful of wealthy donors alone. It will be built by thousands of ordinary people making an extraordinary difference through acts of generosity, no matter how large or small.
You can help not only by donating, but also by sharing this campaign with your family, friends and community. If each supporter encourages just two more people to join this cause, together we can bring this vision to life even sooner.
If you live in Australia, donations made to the School Building Fund before 30 June 2026 are tax deductible and can be claimed as part of your 2026 tax return.
May the merits generated through this act of generosity become conditions for happiness, wellbeing, and progress on the path to liberation for you, your family, and all beings.
With Loving Kindness
