Hi there, Our names are Ashleigh, Koren, Lindsay and Tara. We were blessed with the friendship of Amie, Rich, Paisley and now Kennedi when we all found out we were pregnant with our first children (Matteo, Declan, Whitney, Clara and Paisley). Funny enough, we also got pregnant with our second children around the same time (Noah, Niall, Chelsea, Violet and Kennedi). To say we love miss P is an understatement.
As many of you reading may know (or not know), Paisley was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia) just before her second birthday. She went through intense treatment. Treatment that required her brave parents to move to Toronto for various periods of time. They lived in hotels, and spent countless hours separated from one another to be at Paisley's bedside. They were not allowed to visit together due to the ravages of Covid.
Since the initial treatment they have had countless follow up appointments for treatment, side effects, and complications. Paisley seemed to be coming through and the sunlight started shining for our precious little P. Her treatment was due to be finished in the later half of 2022.
Unfortunately, in the last week, it was found that Paisley's ALL had relapsed. At a routine appointment where Paisley had a lumbar puncture with chemo in her spine they found blasts(leukemia cells) in her spinal fluid. A week later they performed a bone marrow aspiration and found she also had blasts in her bone marrow. She must now go through another round of intensive re induction therapy which will require, at minimum, a one month in-patient stay at Sick Kids in Toronto. She will then have 2 months of immunotherapy and then proceed to a bone marrow transplant.
Her parents must again pick up their lives and move to a Hotel where they won't have access to the comforts of normal life (cooking your own meals easily, laundry when you want, and living as a family in comfort). There are significant costs this lovely young family is going to face. Accomodation, food, travel, and Gas (of course the prices are at an all time high). They will also be faced with spending time away from their youngest beauty, Kennedi.
Having kids is an absolute blessing. But it also means being constantly terrified for their health, safety and well-being. Most parents breathe at night knowing their child is relatively healthy and safe. Paisley's diagnosis and now relapse puts this comfort into complete chaos for the Carter family. While they are undeniably one of the strongest families we have ever met, financial strain is real and a huge burden as they fight this horror for a second time. Amie has been off work since Paisley's initial diagnosis in order to care for her and keep her safe as she was severely immuno compromised throughout treatment. Paisley's dad Rich is also off work now in order to be there for Paisley while they navigate this process once again but on a whole new path.
I hope we can gather some money to help ease the financial burden they will face and take even a small fraction of their stress away. If you can only spare a prayer or good positive thought, please do. It will mean more than you know. Please also consider becoming a bone marrow donor to help save the lives of people like Paisley.
