Painting C. W. Henry!
Donation protected
Hello from the self-appointed C. W. Henry Beautification Committee!
We are Kristin and Amy, two C. W. Henry parents who are making it our mission this summer to bring more color and joy to our community school; something to make the exterior match the love that our teachers and staff provide for our kids.
A few months ago we wanted to paint the front doors of C. W. Henry School because it was depressing to think of another year of Henry students and staff trudging through those dour brown doors. So we came up with a plan, got it approved by the principal, submitted two design proposals for the students and staff to vote on, and spent a weekend priming and painting the front doors.
The difference was immediate and glorious--who would have imagined that some splashes of color would make such an impact? Oh, only everyone who has ever been in an elementary school. Our kids deserve what their suburban counterparts have had for decades; a place that looks happy and inviting.
C. W. Henry has a lot of doors. Exterior doors! Interior doors! And then we want to put designs and murals in the hallways and the cafeteria and any other wall that currently looks like it's dying of boredom.
We've priced out our needs (primer, paint colors, polyurethane spray, brushes and rollers) and to do most of the doors will cost something like $500. But why stop there? The more funding we raise, the more color we can bring to C. W. Henry. We have toured the the school many times and we have a ton of friendly ideas.
When our kids came back to school last September after a year and a half of remote learning, the decision was made to no longer require school uniforms. Suddenly our schoolyard was alive with a riot of colors every day, and it brought us some much needed joy. It's time to do the same thing for the school building. We want to make C. W. Henry a place that looks as warm and inviting as our community, and with your help it's entirely possible.
Thank you,
Kristin and Amy
