Painting By Numbers at the Toronto Fringe Festival
Donation protected
Tis the season! The Toronto Fringe Festival is back in full swing and a new GTA-based theatre company is taking it by storm!
People are complicated. So is art. You know what isn't complicated? Donating to support some emerging artists putting on a funny show about people AND art.
Fresh Palette Theatre Company is proud to present Judah Parris' new play Painting By Numbers. As a couple of fresh artists, we're going to need some numbers so that we're able to paint (or, in layman's terms, we, emerging artists, would love your donation so that we can bring this story to life). Your donation, no matter what size, will help us ensure that every member of our cast and crew will receive fair compensation for their time and talent.
Our story revolves around theft; theft of property, time, and resources? Yes, but we’re talking specifically about art theft. A painting is stolen in the middle of the night. Why? Because art is valuable and we all know it. For one person that painting can be a ticket to a comfortable life, for another a chance at reclaiming lost glory but for the artist it was their livelihood. Painting by Numbers is the story of the lost painting that could, from the perspective of Leila Fitzgerald.
One piece of art can mean so much to so many. The same is true for a play. But still the artists are often undervalued and underappreciated. That is what Painting by Numbers sets out to address and we, Fresh Palette Theatre Company, want to contribute to remedying that gap. Every dollar that is donated is going directly towards bringing this story to the forefront of the Fringe and ensuring that our lovely collaborators get paid fair wages for their equally lively work on this project.

Fresh Palette Theatre Company is a manifestation of our desire to create opportunities for young, up-and-coming actors and theater creators. We believe everyone has a unique palette, colours that represent themselves, their culture, and their experiences, we use those colours to create our legacies. We create shows that draw from these core principles. Highlighting BIPOC artists is a priority of Fresh Palette to uphold our core belief that everyone’s palette is important. In the theatre industry, the importance of mastering one’s craft and creating your opportunities is crucial. Forming this theater company is the means of enabling this growth, not only for ourselves but for others in the same situation.
