The PAIHS DREAM Team was created in May 2016 by Mrs. Shirley Torres in order to bring together undocumented and documented students while providing a safe place where students can share their stories and find support from one another. They also learn about immigration policy and participate in conferences like CUNY DREAMERS Conference where they are educated on how to help undocumented families. Our team members are supported with resources such as scholarship opportunities, free immigration clinics through ActionNYC, and professional workshops from Mujeres Latinas En Accion.
The team consists of the College Counselor, Mrs. Shirley Torres, College Assistant, Mariana Arango Vasco, Guidance Counselor, Mrs. Franchesca Rivera, SAPIS Counselor, Karla Pina and about 20 PAIHS students. This school year, the team had a few bake sales in order to raise money for the team and it was decided that the money raised should be awarded to a student or students that are struggling economically and will not be awarded any financial aid for their college education.
The PAIHS DREAM TEAM asks you to please find it in your heart to donate any amount that you can to our mission in creating the PAIHS DREAM TEAM SCHOLARSHIP. This scholarship will assist one or two students in assisting them to pay for one or two semesters of college. College can be costly for families that do not qualify for financial aid and as a team, we want to help our community in making college more affordable for our families. PLEASE HELP US!!!! Any little bit counts.
