Hello!
I am a life long family friend of Paige's mother, Ashley Story Odom and a friend to her family. I want to welcome you and share Paige's story.
Paige is 11 years old and has battled numerous illnesses. As an infant, she underwent blood infusions to help strengthen her immune system. She was born without part of the immune system that fights off infection. During two years of treatment, she underwent a major surgery to correct severe acid reflux, slept with an apnea monitor, had severe allergies, sinuses and asthma. At the young age of 4, Paige underwent a major sinus surgery to help clear an infection that was close to her brain. Before the sinus surgery, she was hospitialized for a week followed by one month of home health services due to a severe sinus infection. In addition to the severe sinus infections, she had 4 bronchoscopes due to episodes of pnuemonia.
Things started looking up for Paige and her family. She was finally able to be a kid and enjoy playing outside without breaking out in hives from coming in contact with grass and she could do all the things she was supposed to enjoy as a kid. Her family was starting to see the light and thought the health issues Paige suffered were just going to remembered as a bad memory in the past, but it was really preparing them for the journey ahead.
Shortly before Paige turned nine years old, she had a seizure . Since then, she has had five confirmed types of epilepsy. Her anti-epileptic medications have caused her immune system to bottom out. She has started blood infusions (IVIG treatments) to help rebuild her immune system. Paige was also recently diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthodontic Tachycardia Syndrome).
The chain of events has resulted in her being homebound from school. She is restricted from going in public and her only outing is to her doctors appointments. Due to Paige being homebound and ill, it has caused a huge emotional and financial struggle for her family. They have to take alot of time away from work due to seizures, illnesses related to immune system, side effects from medications and multiple trips to her specialists in Houston, New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Lafayette. As a result, medical bills and travel expenses are piling up. Please help relieve some of the financial stresses by donating to Paige's Go Fund Me. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
