On May 16, 2023, Paige, a vibrant 24-year-old woman, experienced a life-altering event that left her paralyzed from the chest down. A former friend callously shot her twice in the back, also taking the life of her beloved dog. Paige's fight for survival has been ongoing, facing physical and emotional challenges since that fateful day.

The assailant with a history of 61 criminal convictions, is currently awaiting trial. Paige now grapples with the aftermath, requiring daily assistance for basic bodily functions and dealing with the loss of privacy and dignity due to the tragic incident.

We are reaching out to you, seeking support for Paige's recovery and rehabilitation. Numerous medical and mobility supplies crucial to her well-being are not covered by government health insurance. For instance, an alternating pressure mattress, essential for preventing bedsores, costs $3200, and a power wheelchair, imperative for her mobility, is priced at around $4000. Paige also needs a customized wheelchair with stand-up and eye-level features, amounting to $14,000. Additionally, a patient transfer lift, crucial for daily activities, comes with a cost of $5000.

The challenges extend beyond these immediate needs. Renting a wheelchair-accessible van for a single day is $170, while purchasing a van, which would significantly enhance Paige's independence, ranges from $130,000 to $180,000.

Currently residing in a Long-Term Care Facility in the north of London, Paige is isolated from family and friends. Basic needs are covered, but she lacks funds for transportation, preventing her from engaging in simple joys like shopping or visiting loved ones. A home visit, essential for her emotional well-being, costs approximately $170.

It's important to note that Paige received a one-time payment of $1000 and counselling from the government as a victim of a violent crime. However, this assistance falls far short of covering the extensive expenses she now faces.
