You never think it will be you, until it is. To be diagnosed with this terrible disease or be the one on the sideline watching a loved one fight for their life, it truly is a real-life nightmare to sit here and decide to create a GoFundMe account for my little sister Paige, who is only 27 years old and fighting for her life.
Paige has been fighting her battle since July 20 2023 when she was diagnosed with triple negative inflammatory breast cancer. It unfortunately is an extremely aggressive, rare cancer. Paige and her amazing husband Nick (who has not left her side since the start), have a very long hard journey ahead of them. As a family we are trying to do absolutely everything we can to support them.
I am creating this GoFundMe account to hopefully give them even more support. We are hoping we can find newer treatments that may be available outside of Canada that will give Paige more of a fighting chance, and also to relieve some of the financial stress placed upon Paige and Nick, while Nick has had to take time away from work to be there for his wife and best friend.
Currently Paige has been in the Grande Prairie Regional Hospital for the past two weeks for pain relief from the side effects of the cancer, but unfortunately it is not working. To date, Paige has undergone three different types of chemotherapy, all of which have done nothing to slow the cancer. Last week, she started radiation in her left breast to hopefully reduce pain and bring down swelling so she can be more comfortable. Once she has completed this radiation, she will begin a new aggressive chemotherapy called “the red devil." We are praying this works as her options are becoming extremely limited to find treatment that will work for her rare cancer.
Her most recent CT scan has shown the cancer is currently in her breast, lymph nodes, spine, liver, lungs, and has also developed into skin metastasis. Her doctors are also very concerned as she has fluid in her lungs. In order to get through each day, she is on very high doses of painkillers which makes it hard for her to interact with her family and friends as she is unable to see her phone and spends most of the day sleeping.
What is amazing is that despite how scary and life changing this has been, Paige has remained so positive, so brave, and does not want to give up this battle. As a family we are so blessed to have so many amazing people stand beside us during this challenging time. Whether it has been a homemade meal for Paige and Nick, a text, a phone call, flowers, a donation, or a prayer we are forever grateful! We hope to give them more support, hope and help through this GoFundMe account.
