Paige and Eddie's Page

Eddie and Paige met in 6th grade at Irmo Middle School. They went all the way through high school together. Fast forward 26 years to 2012,  when they realized they both lived in Charlotte... 20 minutes from each other. They began to reconnect and found they enjoyed one another's company. In March of 2016, they decided to officially spend the rest of their lives together and became husband and wife.  Making this family complete are Paige’s 14 year-old twin daughters, Madison and Morgan.

This is the unbelievable story of a couple who has been through more in the last 2 years than most of us go through in a lifetime.

PAIGE
In April of 2017 I was diagnosed with Triple Negative breast cancer. The AC chemotherapy left chemical burns on my body. The chemo drug Taxol almost killed me. I was diagnosed with pneumonitis in September 2017 and had to cease treatment. In addition to the pneumonitis, I have permanent lung damage from the Taxol and require supplemental oxygen 24/7.

In mid-July 2018, I started having this excruciating pain on my right side. It was not diagnosed for quite some time. In September I was admitted to the hospital again and it was determined that I had fluid on my lung and was hospitalized. During this time of diagnostic testing, there was a spot on the side of my lung that my pulmonologist was concerned about. I became very sick again and was admitted back to the hospital the beginning of October. More fluid and inflammation on the lung and more tests. It was not until I became really sick again a few weeks later that things started moving along. After 2 more weeks in the hospital, scans, biopsies and lung surgery, the pathology finally came back with the diagnosis that we were not hoping for.

It is Stage IV Metastatic Breast Cancer in the Lung. The prognosis is not good. It is not curable, but treatable at the moment. It is terminal.

I have decided to try Chemo again with the goal to slow the progression of the disease and to quiet the symptoms from the cancer. I started a new chemo regimen on 11/2/18 and will continue taking chemo as long as my body can handle it and the cancer is responding as well.

I became sick in mid-November and was unable to breathe or catch my breath and felt like I was suffocating.
I was admitted back to the hospital on 11/19/18. After 9 days in the hospital getting treatment and recovering I was moved to an inpatient rehab facility. Carolina's Rehabilitation Hospital in the Acute Oncology Rehab Unit. I received excellent care and was discharged on 12/9/18.

EDDIE
In November 2018, after an annual physical, I was advised that my PSA levels were at 20. Normal levels are 0-3.5. After several tests and scans, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer. After several more scans, doctors became concerned with two spots that lit up (one on my shoulder and one on my rib). 1/4/19 I had a biopsy on the rib spot. It was confirmed to be malignant. My official diagnosis is Metastatic Castrate Sensitive Low Volume Prostate Cancer. The treatment plan I've opted for includes 20 +/- radiation treatments. After which, I will join a clinical trial at Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte that has boasted some positive results. I will be taking a hormone blocker for the rest of my life.  Hopefully it was caught quickly enough that I'll have at least 4-6 years left on my timeline, and possibly even double digits, according to my Dr. depending how well the treatments I'm getting beat the cancer down and hopefully get the PSA level in my blood as close to "0" as possible.

We are so blessed in so many ways and are so thankful for friends and family who have stood by our sides and helped us through these rough times. We appreciate the support, well wishes, good vibes and all of the prayers the past year and a half. It is so comforting to know we are not alone in this fight. We also know that this is God's plan and He will see us through this every step of the way.  We pray for comfort and healing as we continue this journey.

As most of you know, medical bills for ONE person are expensive, care for ONE person is expensive. Now multiply that by two. Insurance, food, and monthly bills add up and, unfortunately don't cease. Neither Eddie nor Paige are able to work at this time. As these two continue with one difficult journey and now embark on another, we hope that we can ease a small bit of their stress by giving them the gift of financial comfort.  While none of us can control what happens to Eddie or Paige, we can support them and lessen their load. Please help us do that.

Please share this page however you can and spread the word. If you would like to keep up with Eddie and Paige's updates, please see their Caring Bridge page link below.  Any and all thoughts, prayers, and/or monetary contributions are greatly appreciated. If you are interested in helping Eddie and Paige with things like meals, gift cards for food, cleaning, household items, etc we have listed some suggestions below:
