A single mom's humble request for support as my daughter and I work through an incredibly challenging time.
In September 2023, my world was turned upside down when my daughter’s father passed away unexpectedly. He was the primary provider for our family, and his sudden loss left us without financial support. Shortly after, we were evicted from our home and had our car repossessed. For the past year, we’ve been living with friends and trying to stay afloat.
My daughter, Ayaan, and I have been doing our best to find stability. I’ve been doing freelance work and some cleaning jobs, but my income is inconsistent, and it’s hard to make ends meet with everything else going on. Our last living situation ended abruptly, two weeks before Christmas, and I was stiffed on over 30 hours of graphic design work. My close friend (also named Paige) was kind enough to take us in and we have been living on her couch since.
I've been applying for jobs at my old corporate gig to give my nervous system a second to release with the comfort of a salary. An easy to land job, but the hiring process timeline is stressful. Paige was recently hired as a full-time nanny, but she won’t receive her first paycheck until mid-March. Meanwhile, we are managing a very tight budget. With gas, groceries, phone bill, and other expenses, the strain is becoming more than I can manage on my own while in this liminal space. I can see the finish line, but feel like the wheels are going to fall off before we can cross it.
I’m asking for support to cover the following immediate needs for February and March:
Storage fees for our belongings ($403 total)
Gas for commuting (about $30 every other day for my daughter’s school)
Groceries for my daughter - I sustain myself on her leftovers (about $150 a week)
Phone bill ($179)
A small contribution to rent for Paige and her roommate, if possible
The last year has been full of grief and growth for myself and my daughter. We have lost everything except each other and I will never take security and having my own space for granted. Any amount given will be life changing for us with where we stand right now. I have no where else to go at this point, we've exhausted all of our resources extensively over the last 12 months of Tower moments.
