PAGE TURNERS: SUMMER BOOK CLUB!
Hey yall!
My name is Brittany Yhap & I've been teaching English Language Arts for over 7 years in the Public Middle School setting in Southern MD. Over the years, Ive witnessed many youth leave the school setting in June only to return to school in September at a deficit due to their lack of educational involvement over the Summer break.
In order to combat this ever increasing learning gap, Ive created the PAGE TURNERS: Reading & Adventure club which was designed specifically for students located in the Indian Head/Nanjemoy area (Southern MD). We will be covering 4 novels this summer (Locomotion, Rebound, Miracles Boys, The Playbook) & students will also participate in several outings which will take them to new heights in their learning & in life! As a teacher, my greatest concern is the overall wellbeing of every student. Specifically regarding the fact that many students in this area have nothing to do all summer, no access to vacations, no where to go, and no access to meaningful experiences that would allow them to grow not only as an individual, but also as a learner!
Your donation will cover the following outings and supplies for 20 plus students:
The International Spy Museum ($40.00 per child)
The National Smithsonian Art Museum (FREE)
Paint & Chill Studio Session (FREE)
DC Monument Bus Tour ($54.00 per child)
Sky Zone ($33.00 per child)
DC Subway Metro Trip ($12.00 per child)
Page Turners Book Club T-Shirts (FREE)
Page Turners Book Bags filled with: 1 notebook, 1 sharpie pen, 1 mini hand sanitizer, 1 sun screen pack, 1 reusable water bottle with built in straw, 1 pair of sunglasses, 4 novels and 1 bug spray pouch( $70.00 per child)
Rental Vans (2 per trip/ $190.00 per van)
Your donation will also cover: Student meals (approximately $15.00 per child, per outing/book club meeting)
*This is a non-profit camp that is not connected to any public school system (no funding)*
Camp Begins June 26 th & ends on August 7th.
