Hello! My name is Lucas Haviland, and I am a second-year student at DePaul University pursuing a Film and Television degree concentrating in Screenwriting and minoring in Sound Design. I am developing a short film called Pages in the Wind, which I plan to produce in May.
Pages in the Wind explores a gay young adult who reads his journal entries about a relationship with his roommate, walking the line between fantasy and reality. When Bailey Marshall takes the time to look through his previous journal entries, he faces the complex emotions surrounding his relationship with his roommate, Gavin Anderson; however, the arrival of his best friend, Corrine Davis, forces Bailey to face the reality of his situation. Pages in the Wind is a character-driven queer romantic drama exploring longing for any aspect of a relationship and the intricacies of wanting something you can never have.
I’m creating this film to explore the ambiguity of relationships and also tap into foundational elements of my life as an individual within the LGBTQ+ community. I think that this film connects to a common longing and desire many people both within the LGBTQ+ community and outside of it have, leading me to explore the lengths someone will go to conjure up their own story.
Producing a short film is an expensive endeavor, which makes crowdfunding an integral aspect of this production process. Funding this project will go towards feeding our crew, production design elements, transportation, location permits, and other contingencies. All donors who provide $35 or more will receive a special thanks in the credits; however, I am grateful for any and all donations, no matter the size. I look forward to cultivating a community around Pages in the Wind that extends beyond the boundaries of the screen.
Thank you for you time and consideration in supporting my project! Your generosity and support play a foundational role in bringing this story to life!
