We are reaching out to ask for your help in supporting our father, Paddy Driver.
Many of you will know Paddy as a fierce and determined competitor who made his mark in motorsport history. He raced at the very highest level in both South African Formula 1 and World Grand Prix motorcycle racing, achieving an incredible 3rd place in the 1965 World 500cc Motorcycle Championship. Over his career, he rode and drove for some of the most iconic names in racing — including Norton, Matchless (where he found his greatest success on the Matchless G50), Lotus, McLaren, March, Lola, and even the legendary Ford GT40. Paddy raced them all!
But beyond the accolades, trophies, and machines, Paddy was known for his grit, passion, and relentless spirit — qualities that defined him both on and off the track.
Paddy believed in sorting it out on the track and never placed a protest in his long career.
Today, our dad is facing a very different kind of challenge.
Paddy has been diagnosed with Dementia. While he remains physically strong, his memory has faded significantly, and he is no longer able to recall many of the incredible achievements and moments that defined his life and career.
Paddy has been in care for a while now but sadly his funds have dried up. We are arranging to sell his assets and that will take a while hence the need for this funding. Paddy needs £1,500 a month to help cover the cost of his nursing home care and ongoing medical needs. These funds will go directly toward ensuring he receives the comfort, dignity, and support he deserves in this stage of his life.
This fundraiser is being arranged by his children — Robert and Sally Driver — along with his stepson Alex, who are doing everything they can to support him.
If you knew Paddy, followed his career, or simply feel moved by his story, we would be deeply grateful for any contribution, no matter how small. And if you’re unable to donate, sharing this page would mean just as much. It looks like we are in for the long haul as Paddy is one tough Hombre and is not on his final lap my any means.
Thank you for helping us care for a man who gave so much, inspired so many, and continues to be deeply loved.
With gratitude,
Robert, Sally & Alex
