Hi My name is Jody Bell , I'm Paddy Connors Aunty and I'm Sue Bell's sister. You may have heard 3 weeks ago Paddy was taken to hospital with suspected pneumonia. Paddy was immediately admitted to the ICU because of fluid in his lungs which then collapsed. He was operated on to clear his lungs, unfortunately his liver was nicked during the operation . Which then bled and added more complications to his recovery. He had to be intubated on a ventilator for 2 weeks so he could breathe. Paddy also had kidney injury so he needed dialysis for 4 days .Paddy also has the added complication of having type 1 diabetes and Myotonic dystrophy. Because of Paddy's tracheotomy, he can't talk at this stage. As you can imagine Sue and Michael were and still are very worried and were taking turns to be by his side this whole time.
That is until Sue started feeling very unwell and went home with chronic chest and back pain. After calling a doctor who came to the house an ambulance was called and Sue was admitted into hospital after having had a heart attack. She had a procedure to clear the clot in her artery and spent 4 days in coronary care unit being monitored. Luckily in the same hospital as Paddy. Michael then sat with both of them at different times.
This GoFundMe is being put into place because of what's yet to come. Not knowing how Paddy's rehabilitation will go, what it will entail, and how long it will take. Sue has a few specialist appointments with cardiologists and procedures in January . She will need medication every day now for her heart. Sue has 7 weeks leave from her work, which is her long service leave. Sue is now at home, couch and Bed bound and can't travel into the hospital to be with Paddy unless somebody takes her in a wheelchair.
It looks more than likely that Paddy will be in the Hospital for Christmas and possibly into the new year. Things change for him day to day—one step forward, two steps back. Sue has to rest until her energy returns.
When I suggested we start a GoFundMe to help with costs Sue was gobsmacked and teary. I think it's the right time. These funds will help with specialist appointments, medications, and Bills that don't stop coming.
However much you can contribute to help out with this health crisis will be so appreciated. Many many many thanks xxx
