“The Lummi gives our invitation towards the 44 original people to our traditional territory, 2019.  The invitation for a gathering for well-being and health is really good for us.  The raising of our hands toward our extended relatives.  The invitation for a large gathering of our people and giving invitation to our relatives to gather for eating, dance and many songs, to sleep and rest and gather the really good feelings from each other.”

The Lummi Nation is excited to announce that we are hosting the intertribal canoe journey; Paddle to Lummi 2019: SQWESHENET TSE SCHELANGEN “Protecting Our Way of Life.” We are expecting 100  traveling canoes from Coast Salish territory and anticipate 10,000+ people on our homelands between the dates July 24-28th, 2019. During this time frame each canoe family will have the privilege of sharing their culture through traditional song, dance, and protocols.

Over the years we as Native people have witnessed that the discipline it teaches our younger generations. Practicing our way of life through canoe pulling, singing, dancing, and hand crafts has allowed our Tribal Nations to practice true sovereignty. We understand and know what that means for the overall health and wellness of our Nation.  Living with this trusted responsibility to our communities—the Lummi Nation has chosen to offer a way to come together and Honor our way of life through the hosting of the Paddle to Lummi in 2019. Hosting 10,000 plus people on our ancestral shores means we need to build strong bridges with our neighboring tribal communities.

Your Donation will help contribute to the hosting and accommodations for the Paddle to Lummi. We have a high goal to raise, but we believe every little bit helps.
