Pacifica Safety Net

The Pacifica Safety Net is a community of concerned listeners whose mission is to ensure that Pacifica radio stations survives this historic, unprecedented time of economic upheaval and instability. We are dedicated to raising money, outside of the purview of foundation management, to protect the local stations from the immediate dangers they face. We are raising money for a “safety net” of funds to protect the stations in case of emergencies, whether they are legal, operational or otherwise.  Our mission is durable because it was created to serve - out of a righteous spirit, interested only in keeping the stations on the air so they can continue to provide programming that improves and protects the health, wealth and rights of listeners in the communities they serve and worldwide on the web.

Sadly, the Pacifica Foundation is currently run by a bloated, dysfunctional and conflicted Board of directors. The Board is incapable of raising funds or managing this media treasure, which is leading The Pacifica Foundation to the edge of collapse. The Board took out a $3.2 million loan, collateralized by KPFK, KPFA and KPFT’s listener-funded buildings, to bail out the failing NY station. They have no way to repay the loan, which is due in April 2021.

Pacifica’s broadcast facilities will likely be sold to repay the loan, which would threaten the stations as we know them, possibly knocking them off the air for good,  or worse turning them into the 24/7 voice of quack cures, alternative beauty products, conspiracy mongers and marginal sectarian splinter groups. The Pacifica board has also engaged in other activities that put the stations continued existence, from its staff to the programs we depend on, in doubt. Several independent audit firms have concluded that the future of The Pacifica Foundation is in serious jeopardy.  The question presented to you is: what can you do to save your local Pacifica station?

We are offering our fellow listeners a chance to support and enhance our important work with The Pacifica Safety Net: an opportunity to join a community of people who share a collective vision to keep Pacifica independent. The Pacifica Safety Net is powered by donations. This means there isn’t a safety net of corporate funding, major endowments and underwriting like other public broadcast entities.  For more information on the Pacifica Safety Net Foundation go to:
