Hey All,
As an employee of Angie's List, I have been a Lunch Buddy since offered the opportunity a few years back. I have been paired with several 5th and 6th graders at Washington Irving School 14. If you are not familiar, it is located by campus on the Near Eastside of Indianapolis, in the Holy Cross Neighborhood.
As Lunch Buddies, we take an hour every week to share a meal with the kids. The kids always eat their lunch as fast they can to play sports, games and draw. (I never thought I would have recess again!)
Born out of these small moments of play are insights into the worldviews of these children. They are so very innocent, humorous, honest and inherently good-natured.
At Lunch Buddies, we try reinforce the values of hardwork, respect and wholesome fun that the parents, teachers and loved ones have cultivated over the years.
Much like you and I, each child has their own vibrant personality with big ideas for where they are headed in life. Some kids imagine themselves playing on the stage or under the bright lights; others want to be Engineers and a few want to lead an expedition on Mars as Astronauts. But most want to work at Angie's List as Account Managers. Not really. But that would be cool if they did right? I digress.
Aside from their aspirations, we hear rumblings of the harsh realities where lights are getting cut out, see kids are wearing the same uniform day in and day out, and find that alot of kids rely upon nourishment through meals at school, whether breakfast or lunch.
As such, most of these kids don't get to go to the ball game like you and I did as children. These children deserve a special night. Don't you agree? I think the Pacers School Night Out program will do just that.
The Pacers have generous school packages that allow the kids get to meet the players, go on court for the intros, receive an autographed ball and get a bite to eat.
With $3,000 in donations we can all bring this night to fruition for our Lunch Buddies.
I implore you to be generous in contributing a monetary donation, and thank you in advance for your charitable spirit.
We are looking to raise the funds quickly over the next week.
