Pacer's Medical Bills

Donation protected
10/18 Update: Yesterday Pacer started eating again and made sure the wonderful staff and Alpenglow gave her belly rubs, which meant she finally got to go home! The icing on the cake was that Pacer's mom came home too! Official Summary from the vet: "Pacer has been hospitalized at Alpenglow since 10.13.17 for severe hemorrhagic diarrhea syndrome with suspected systemic infection secondary to translocation of bacteria from her GI tract. She developed a severe arrhythmia over the weekend and required anti-arrhythmic medication to control this. Her arrhythmia improved yesterday and we were able to wean the medication. Additionally, she had a low blood pressure, fever, inflammatory fluid in her belly, elevated kidney values, and a low white blood cell count all of which have resolved. She still has a mildly elevated liver enzyme
that we suspect is secondary to the severe inflammation/infection she experienced, but would like to recheck this next week to ensure it resolves as well."

                                     (Pacer and her mom)

Our beloved Pacer, aka Supergirl, whom you may know from Youtube, Instagram, or the blog A Dog and Her Girl (see below) has recently taken her nickname to a new level and just put up the fight of her life. On Friday, Oct. 13th, Pacer got very sick and was taken to the local emergency clinic, where she was diagnosed with Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (HGE). If not treated quickly, this is fatal to dogs. Once treated most dogs recover fairly quickly, but Pacer's case continued to be critical through the weekend and she was placed under intensive care. Her heart was also closely monitored since she was experiencing heart arrhythmia. She received an IV, medicine, blood tests, an ultrasound, and all kinds of care. On Monday, the radiologist performed the ultrasound and thankfully did not find anything of major concern, although things are still inflamed. Even better, Pacer finally got some of her spark back! She's not out of the woods yet and she still needs to start eating again, but we're now hopeful that she'll make a full recovery! There was even talk of her going home on Tuesday or Wednesday.

                                               From Friday (10/13)

We're all doing our best to give Pacer TONS of love.

To top everything off Pacer's mom, Ray (my sister) is a grad student of wilderness therapy and this year's curriculum involved a 12-day backpacking trip in Utah without cell service. After tons of calls and emails trying to reach her, I found out that the group's satellite phone would only be turned on if they had an emergency on site. Ray should have cell service again on Tuesday the 17th.

Today (Monday) Pacer was ready to cuddle again!

As you can imagine, Pacer's stay at the emergency clinic has been incredibly expensive. The last thing anyone wants to do is put that burden on Ray since grad students barely have any money (if any) to begin with. While I know not everyone has the same viewpoints, to us dogs are family members and we'd do anything in our power to help them. I, Sandi, gladly put everything on my credit card and will slowly chip away at the medical bills if I have to. However, if anyone would like to pitch in, all those that love Pacer and I would forever be grateful for your generosity! Additionally, to anyone who donates I will be emailing you with a 50% off code towards any purchases at SageRunning.com.

Sincerest thanks,

Sandi, Ray, Sage, Joshua, and Supergirl
