Pablo’s Vet Bills and Recovery
Donation protected
update March 20: Pablo received a second surgery to install a drain into his wound. This drain will stay in for 3-5 days or until the fluid into the drain is clear. This procedure cost $1400. Pablo is also on soft food diet for the next 2-3 months that costs us approximately $8/day. Pablo’s will need a dental surgery in the near future as well to remove his shattered teeth.
update: on Sunday Morning the vet called to confirm that my dog was shot through the mouth. He has shattered bones, esophageal damage and torn tissue. They are removing the bullet. They suspect he can make a full recovery if we put a plate in the bottom of his mouth. They estimated this will be an additional $5000 expense.
My family is fundraiser for our dogs medical bills.
On Monday March 6, my two dogs Pablo and Patrick disappeared from the end of my laneway. No neighbours reported seeing them at all.
On Thursday March 9, we brought in a thermal drone who checked a 6km radius around our house for them. Drone turned up zero sightings of them.
On Saturday March 11, my lab cross, Pablo, returned severely injured. We took him to Pulse Vet Emergency in Sherwood Park. Pablo has 2 inch by 2 inch hole in the bottom of mouth. This hole goes through and through. Due to the severity of the injury and him being unable to eat or drink Pablo was admitted. He will need a feeding tube while they try to assess how to repair the hole, and if there is even enough tissue there to do so. Failure to repair the tissue is our biggest concern because it will continue to hinder Pablo’s ability to eat or drink. We will be faced with some hard decisions to make.
We were given a quote for $3700 for initial care, which includes a feeding tube, pain meds, antibiotics, hospital stay, materials ect.
We will find out in a few days how successful the surgery will be.
In addition, our sweet beast Patrick is still missing.
Thank you in advance to everyone who shared our posts, reached out and sent words of encouragement. We have felt insanely supported by the province over the last week.
We will update photos.
