Walter’s Story

Walter Kroeker is a 56-year-old farmer, devoted husband, father of five, and grandfather of two from Western Manitoba. Known for his unwavering work ethic and love for his family, Walter has spent his life building a legacy of kindness, dedication, and passion. Whether he’s working on the farm, building bridges alongside his lifelong friend of 40 years, or cheering on his kids in judo, Walter approaches every aspect of life with pride and joy.

But everything changed in January when Walter suffered a stroke-like event at Ag Days in Brandon, MB. After multiple tests and a CT scan, his family received devastating news: a tumor was discovered in the left frontal lobe of his brain, possibly cancerous. On February 13th, Walter underwent a successful craniotomy, which restored his ability to walk, talk, and read. His resilience and recovery amazed his doctors, but the battle was far from over.

On February 28th, Walter received the difficult diagnosis of glioblastoma multiforme, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Starting March 20th, he will begin six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy at CancerCare in Winnipeg, followed by ongoing treatment cycles at home. While the road ahead is challenging, Walter remains hopeful and determined to fight for more time with his loved ones.
