Former Child Soldiers Dream Big!
Tax deductible
Cori Thomas is a Liberian American playwright and Co-Founder of Pa's Hat Foundation. In 2000, on a visit during the war with her father, a former diplomat, she was nearly shot and killed by a child soldier. She walked away with 2 major realizations:
1. Life is precious and dreams are fleeting.
2. These boys and men deserve a chance to experience the world without repercussions for actions they cannot be held accountable for.
The war is over now and Pa's Hat is trying to help as best we can.
The Liberia Project
Phase 1.
5 former child combatants: Dolo, Sam, Sems, Thomas, Varney ages 19-38 and Cori had a meeting on Dec 29, 2016. They decided they want to open a small office supply store in their neighborhood outside of Monrovia. Gardnersville
We found a building to serve as a home base and the store. Rent is $500 per month. In Liberia, rent is paid by the year. WE ARE TRYING TO RENT AND RENOVATE THIS BUILDING!

Pa's Hat will pay for all of the young mens education needs, and because jobs and social programs are not readily available in Liberia, they will also help fund a business (the store) for 5 years.
After 5 years- they get to keep it!!!!!
With the proceeds from the business and help from you, other small groups of former child soldiers will have small businesses in their communities funded in the same way.
There were over 38,000 child combatants by the end of the war in 2003.
We're starting with these 5 and little by little, will try to get them all.
Our organization focuses on boys and men because there are few programs focusing on them and enabling them to live lives of agency.
