Run for Afghanistan

Hello friends,

This September I will be running 120km to raise money and awareness for the escalating violence in Afghanistan that is contributing to an increasingly alarming humanitarian crisis.

I will specifically be raising money for UN Refugee Agency Australia which contributes to international humanitarian programs that support refugees and other displaced peoples.

The money raised will go to supplying emergency shelter, food, water, and sanitation to newly displaced Afghans in order to protect these families who so desperately need support.

I know the news cycle is extremely overwhelming at the moment and you may feel devastated and concerned with the copious amounts of upsetting information that you hear, read, watch or listen to. I often feel so helpless and hopeless when consuming news at the moment, and question the ways in which I, as one person, can provide support to millions of people who are suffering. That is why we need to work together and acknowledge that actions and expressions of support, no matter how big or small, will in some way aim to help those people who have been forced to flee their homes in desperate search of safety. Do what you can to stay informed, get involved, and show your support in any way you feel comfortable. In saying that don’t forget to stay safe, go easy on yourself, and be kind to yourself and others in the process.

I also acknowledge the financial impact that covid has had on everyone and understand that many people are unable to donate.

If you are unable to make a financial donation, there are, other ways to show your support, including contacting your local MP https://saveafghanistannow.good.do/contact/mp/?fbclid=IwAR3iF8LePNPSl8Pw2jNxJSafSTCyol_DtrJP6zzp8Aks56aUBHDv5K7tTZQ

Contacting Senator Marise Payne (Minister for Women and Minister for Foreign Affairs) to ask for her support, https://australia.good.do/senatorpayne/australia-support-afghanistan/?utm_medium=cpc&utm_source=google&utm_campaign=AU_PS_EN_general_UNHCR_CoreBrand&utm_tag&utm_content&utm_email&utm_package&code=OAWBNDO002&fbclid=IwAR1-4j6YM76jTvU0FdhLWZM86aibljqMzIULc_Lw10IoMWih19PdBz_M7bw

Signing a petition such as the one started by the Afghan Australian Advocacy Network, or educating yourself, educating a friend or family member, and consuming a healthy amount of news on the continually escalating situation. https://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-scott-morrison-action-for-afghanistan?fbclid=IwAR0P_py4HqIun7cL_2GHvVTxNArgu5V991_ufP4e08q1gBudhWviCJXlhXc
