Help me meet my biological father
Donation protected
When I was 14 years old my parents told me that I have a different father than the rest of my family (5 siblings). Ever since finding that out, i've never had a desire to seek out my biological father. I attribute this to having an incredible family and an amazing dad who I would not trade for all the riches in the world. 31 years ago he accepted me into our family with no hesitation and never treated me any different than any of my siblings. The Scoville clan and my immediate family will ALWAYS be my family. My love for my family has only grown with the outpouring of support they have shown me through all of this.
But, my life has taken a few unexpected turns recently and has left me wanting to complete the puzzle that is my life story thus far. Finding out who my biological father is will help me paint a picture of where I come from, my family history, my unknown relatives & my genetic lineage. All of these things i find important for personal growth and understanding.
Throughout the last 17 years of knowing that he existed I never had any expectations of what he would be like, and what the experience of meeting him would be like. The only thought that has been a constant regarding this is; I want to look him in the eye, shake his hand and see his face. I don't expect him to embrace me, but I would accept it with open arms if he did. I don't expect any money from him, but if he wants to buy me a beer or lunch, I think that would be cool. I dont expect any fatherly advice, but I would be happy to listen to what he has to say with an open mind. Honestly, i've been lucky enough to have the best fatherly advice a man could ask for from my dad.
This is probably a good point to mention that as far as anyone involved can determine, he never knew about me. Our family moved from Houston when I was 3 months old and my parents did not let him know. I think they played the cards they were dealt in the best way that they knew how and I have no animosity towards either of them for any of the decisions that they made. My parents raised 6 incredible individuals. Meet any one of them and you'd be hard pressed to tell me otherwise
It only took a couple of Google searches to finally find him and I was able to get a hold of his long time friend & band member (who just so happened to be a mitigation lawyer). After a few discussions over the course of a couple of days we both decided that hearing this news from a trusted friend of his would be better than a random call from me. So, as much as I've always thought I would be the one to tell him, he now knows! And he couldn't have taken the father's day news any better from what I've been told. He's excited to talk to me and someday in the near future meet me. I will be calling and talking to him for the first time at 4:00 Monday June 21st.
Just for fun, from what I've been able to garner about his life through my conversations with his best friend, we do have some uncanny similarities.
- we are both musical
- we both work with wood
- we are both nice guys (from what others have told me about him and what I know told about myself ;) )
I have a feeling that there will be many more similarities once we get to know each other.
I started this GoFundMe to help cover some of the expenses to go meet him in Houston Texas. The unfortunate recent events that I had mentioned previously have not left me in a total bind. But, pulling together the funds to make this happen wouldn't be the easiest thing for me while I'm trying to get my own woodshop off the ground and designs out of my head and into reality. I'm hoping there's some kind souls out there that are willing to throw a few dollars my way so that I can see the face of my father and have a small bit more understanding on where I come from in the universe. Thank you!
If I'm lucky enough to raise anything over my goal, or what's needed for the trip to go meet him, I will put that money towards getting my life back in order by starting up a woodshop to build some beautiful furniture. Maybe even use the funds to create a collaborative piece between him and I. :)
I will post updates whenever I can about how this all progresses.
