‘Not the Usual Acrobatics’, poems by Neil McGivney
Book – everyone’s got one; an excellent place for your water glass, because you don’t want to mark the nightstand or the end table; when thick enough, a good iPad rest or backstop for those nostalgic mornings when you decide to read the analog newspaper; book – a placeholder with your old cassettes and CDs on a shelf in the living room, providing the main motive and focus for the dusting that happens just before company arrives. Here comes the weird part, though – this one I wrote. After years of scribbling on cigarette packages, pocket-sized black-covered, tiny-lined pads and throughout every school or work notebook I ever had, I am publishing a book and I am hoping to find supportive souls willing to help me make that happen. I had some time on my hands and the inclination to edit and wound up with a collection of poetry called ‘Not the Usual Acrobatics’ – it represents the squeaky voice I have tried to cultivate in the past many years, a collection of which I am proud and something that I am even willing to share. Whether you are a curious sort, who will read just about anything; a decorator, hoping to find an interesting coaster or two to finish a room, or if you are someone who needs just one more little book to finish a shelf, so the bookend fills out the edge and doesn’t leave space for spare change, dust or impromptu knickknacks, I think this one might fit the bill.
While I will accept and appreciate any contribution, a $15 contribution will get you the undying gratitude of the author and a copy of the book, delivered to your door. Contributions of $25 or more and the book will come defaced with my illegibly scrawled name and a personal note of gratitude, which may or may not come in the form of a Haiku.
