15 Years of Fighting Cancer
Donation protected
In October of 2000 my husband, Michael was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. This is an incurable, fatal cancer of the bone marrow. When he was diagnosed he was told 80% of people don’t make it past 5 years. Fifteen years later Michael is still battling this disease every day and is always overcoming new obstacles.
In those 15 years Michael has undergone two stem-cell transplants, at least ten different chemo therapies, numerous stays in the hospital for shingles, pneumonia, viruses and other emergencies. He was forced to go on disability because a cancerous tumor in his left arm broke the bone in two places. Michael had “nail” surgery and radiation to repair the arm and reduce the tumor. He also broke his right arm due to weakened bones from his cancer in October. Michael had a second “nail” surgery to fix his right arm. They have since discovered a new cancerous tumor in his right arm and are going to start radiation immediately. Michael has been removed from his clinical trial chemotherapy at the University of Michigan Cancer Center because of the newly diagnosed tumor. He is waiting to qualify for a new clinical trial after the radiation treatments are completed.
Michael is currently on disability and is unable to work. This was unexpected and has caused a substantial drop in our income. The stress is impacting Michael’s recovery.
I am working full time but it is still not nearly enough to cover our financial needs. We’ve recently downsized to a smaller house in hopes of relieving part of that strain.
Michael has always maintained a positive attitude and shares his hope with other cancer patients. He has been a true survivor and each new day is an added plus, with every day just getting better.
We are very grateful for all the support and prayers we have received. We hate to ask for financial assistance but we need the help. This battle with cancer has been very difficult on our family.
We would like to thank our family, our friends, and all others who have continued to support us and keep our faith up especially in the last few months when we have needed it the most. Words can’t express how appreciative and thankful we are for any and all of your support. Take Care and God Bless.
