Patrick's Story

First, from Gael (Patrick's life-partner) . . .
Patrick was born in 1947 and has lived in Sonoma Valley all his life.  He is a brilliant and prolific artist who worked at Sonoma Developmental Center for 35 years and has always been an advocate of the arts and artists.  He is in his second year of curating the Artists Series at Sonoma Valley Library.
After a life of helping others - it's his turn to need help.
Whether by coming to his studio in El Verano to buy his paintings and sculptures or contributing to his gofundme account, you could immensely help to relieve him of the financial stress in addition to the stress of the brain cancer and treatment.   Eliminating stress and new treatments and trials can significantly extend and hopefully save his life.    Despite it all, he continues to create his art.

Now the story from Patrick . . .
On January 24, 2019 my life suddenly changed.  That morning, all of a sudden I could not read words nor make sense of things.  Gael rushed me to Sonoma Hospital ER, where they gave me a drug for a stroke and I then had a severe seizure.  I was taken by ambulance to California Pacific hospital in San Francisco for an MRI, diagnosed with a brain tumor and had surgery the next day.
I now cannot read nor remember things - BUT I can still do my art!!!

The tumor is GBM, stage IV and I've been told I have 6 months to 4 years - or even possibly 9 years to live with medical treatments and complementary holistic care.  I am currently undergoing radiation and chemo, and may be sent to UCSF for trials.

I have never in my life wanted to ask for financial help other than selling my paintings.  If you, or anyone you know could help by buying a painting or sculpture it would really help with the tremendous financial hardship and the stress that goes along with that.

Note:  Patrick has a wide range of creations of local landscapes, abstracts, cosmic cartoons and otherworldly sculptures.  If you leave a note or email [email redacted] Gael will call you to make an appointment to meet at Patrick's studio.  There is a wide price range - we can find something within your budget.  All have really good energy !

If you know someone who might want to purchase or donate please forward this.  If we can spread the word I know his work will find good homes and he will be able to relax and concentrate on new work and healing.

Please view the two youtube videos below to learn more about Patrick and his art - founded deeply in Sonoma landscapes and state of mind.

Patrick is definitely in a class by himself. While spending his working hours helping developmentally disadvantaged people at the Sonoma Developmental Center, in after hours he managed to produce many sculptures and paintings. Now retired, he looks forward to ramping up his output. For him, life is art, and vice versa.
You can reach Patrick at (707) [phone redacted].

It's been 6 years since the first Patrick McMurtry video, and Patrick and I agreed it was time for another! Much water has gone over the dam (and disappeared for good) since then. As always, Patrick is there to document the inevitable.
