Help Save Charlie's Life
Donation protected
On Thursday November 9th while my friend Kate and I were out trail riding in Castro Valley, her two dogs were attacked by a coyote.
After stalking us up the trail the coyote grabbed her smallest dog Lilou, a 10 pound jack russell terrier and took off with her in his mouth. Though we chased after them on our horses as best we could, we ultimately watched in horror as it carried her over a fence line and up the mountainside. We were unable to do anything but listen to her cries as she got further and further away. Just when we thought we were watching her disappear forever, her big brother Charlie chased after them, fighting the coyote until it released her. Somehow, they both made it back to us but Charlie had suffered severe and extensive wounds.
Unfortunately Charlie's wounds have not been healing, as the largest of them is now infected leaving the muscle dying. Charlie is meant to have surgery next week to close the wound, however the infection must improve before then. It has become an excruciating waiting game hoping to see things progress in the right direction.
On top of the absolute horror and trauma of watching their dogs be attacked, the Helffrich's are now having to face vet bills that have quickly become insurmountable.
Charlie displayed his absolute loyalty when he put his own life in danger to save his little sister's life. I am hoping that helping to alleviate some of the stress of the financial burden they are facing will allow the Helffrich’s to focus on taking care of their pups and working through the trauma of this incident.
No amount is too little and anything you are able to donate is so greatly appreciated.
