In April 2012, Brandon and Jessica Boozer received news that no parents ever want to hear. Their 2 year old son, Braden, was diagnosed with Stage 4
Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. After an initial round of chemo, doctors realized his cancer was not responding typically. Many treatment options were
reviewed and his parents finally decided to try a risky surgery in New York that could possibly remove all of Braden’s tumors. While preparing for surgery in
New York, Braden was continuously monitored with many tests and scans. One of these scans finally gave an unexpected ray of sunshine. Doctors determined the
tumors were shrinking and turning from active to benign. This meant the risky surgery was deemed unnecessary. Instead of taking a major risk to remove all tumors, only a few needed to be removed. Biopsies confirmed these tumors were indeed shrinking and showing benign. Brandon and Jessica were finally able to breathe deep and watch their two year old finally enjoy being a playful little boy. Braden became quite active, loving to be outdoors with his family and
play with his cousins. In April, his parents were happy to announce they would soon be giving Braden a brother or sister to play with also.
In July 2015, 5 year old big brother to-be Braden went in for his regular 6 month check-up scan. Surprisingly, parts of the scan showed up darker than the scan 6
months prior. Doctors called for more tests and scans. The findings were disappointing and heart breaking. Tumors that once showed benign were now
showing up as malignant. Now Jessica, Brandon and Braden are preparing for their second fight against cancer. This fight will not be easy and will include surgeries, a stem cell transplant, chemo, and radiation.
Wasting no time, the Boozer’s have already started facing cancer head on. This round has a few more obstacles, though not barriers. Jessica, a Kindergarten teacher in Gwinnett County, is expecting their second child the beginning of December. This means she is unable to always be with Braden during his chemo and radiation treatments. Brandon manages his family owned lawn maintenance company. Luckily this allows the flexibility for Brandon to be with Braden. However,
both will have to leave their jobs at times to care for Braden during his treatment. We, their family and friends have pledged to help them in this fight
so they can provide for the best care Braden deserves. We have set up this account to cover the cost of treatment and lost wages due to Braden’s on-going
treatment. Please help us provide Jessica and Brandon with the ability to be Braden’s “side-kicks” as he works on his cancer-fighting super hero skills.
