UPDATES as of 02/06/2020-02/07/2020 Kais is going to work with mom everyday until he finished his meds. We have made an appointment for bloodwork to be done for his kidney levels. He’s still fighting since he’s having stomach issues but he is well and running! For those of you that do not have social media. We will continue to update this page until Kai is 1000%. For more current updates: Instagram is @kai.thecorgi #KaiStrong

UPDATE as of 02/05/2020: Kais creatinine level is 1.2!!!! On 2/4, we were informed that if his creatinine levels stays low or continues to get lower.. that he will be able to come home.. with all your help, constant support, all the wonderful messages, .... KAI IS HOME!!! OUR HOME THAT HAS BEEN SO QUIET THESE PASS FEW DAYS... IS NOW LIVELY AND FILLED WITH LAUGHTER. Per Kai’s doctor mahm’s he will be getting bloodwork done this Monday.

UPDATE as of 02/04/2020: Kai’s creatinine level is now 1.3!!! Same process or lowering the IVs more tonight. He’s energy level is very good and he looks much better.

UPDATE as of 02/03/2020: Kai is now at the general floor! Kai’s creatinine levels went down to 1.5! But, had an episode of vomiting so he was given medication to calm his stomach. He is being given less IV to see how his creatinine levels will be the next morning. Kai spent this day, with his dad and celebrated his 28th bday with him! He was given dinner from home; kibble, ground turkey, broccoli, and carrots. As a treat... Kai’s dad got to walk him outside!

UPDATE as of 02/02/2020: Kai’s creatinine levels were even higher today, 2.1. Aside from creatinine levels rising, Kai is acting normal and himself. He will be stepping down to the general floor tonight, yay no more ICU! Praying his creatinine levels go down

UPDATE as of 02/01/2020: Kai is currently still at UC Davis Vet. He will be staying in ICU once again tonight because his creatinine levels are higher than it was yesterday, 1.7 to be exact (Normal level is 0.6 -1.2). High level of creatinine indicates that the kidneys are not filtering waste at a rate they should be. He also had episodes of fluctuating blood pressure, diarrhea, and 1 episode of vomiting (most likely from the dialysis). They will keep monitoring him overnight and recheck his blood tomorrow morning, in hopes his creatinine levels go down. So until his creatinine levels go down, he will be staying at the hospital. He’s fighting ❤️ #KaiStrong

Never would I thought to create a gofundme page for my fur baby, but here I go. On January 31st, Kai got a hold of an ibuprofen medication bottle and had to be rushed to the ER. Upon arrival, he was in critical condition and at the words of the doctor “brain dead.” They intubated him immediately and told Kenneth and I he had 5 hours to live, & if there were no changes to his brain activity, we would have to make the decision to put him to sleep.

She gave us a 5 hour treatment plan where they would inject naloxone and intralipid to reverse the toxicity. Within 1 hour, Kai became alert enough to have his tube taken out. What a freaking fighter!!

But not in the clear yet. Now that his brain function was coming back, the next problem was kidney problems. The vet suggested we transfer him to UC Davis Veterinary Hospital to get hemodialysis. However, financially we were not ready to take on this decision. Knowing that this bill would probably reach $10k+, we were faced with the decision to either have his kidneys run its natural course & hope it’s not damage, or send him to a specialist to do what’s best, but face the burden of not being able to afford the cost.

We both agreed, that financial struggles should not be the reason why Kai should suffer through this pain because of our own irresponsibility. & after given the chance to live for 5 more hours, he fought through it. Little by little he made progress.

Kai is currently at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital getting his hemodialysis in hopes to cleanse his blood from the toxins and to make sure his kidneys aren’t failing. He is stable and alert.

In times like this, even our fur baby needs help. I ask for any support, no matter how little, or even your prayers, anything counts. Any excess money we do not use, we will gladly return.

Please keep Kai in your prayers as we wait for his journey to recovery & coming home.

Thank you.
