Medical Expenses for Bonnie Deraway

Hi, my name is Leslie Crockwell. Bonnie's daughter, Tracy reached out to me with their story and asked me to assist her in creating this Go Fund Me to assist her folks during this difficult time.

In May 2022, my mom was diagnosed with a 3cm brain tumor vestibular schwannoma, attached to her brain stem and intertwined in her auditory canal. After many scans, tests and consultations it was decided that mom needed resection surgery with the understanding of potential residual effects of hearing loss, eye and facial weakness along with physical restrictions. On February 28th she was finally able to receive the surgery needed to start her healing process.

Prior to surgery, I encouraged her to look into a Go Fund Me account to assist with some of the financial burdens that my folks would be coming up against. She absolutely refused. As her HCP I have access to mom’s records including financials. I recently got my first view of what my folks were facing PRIOR to surgery, so labs and scans and pre-op with all of the costs attached. This heightened my desire to help; they don’t want help but the worry is toxic when someone is trying to heal and recover. Stewing on this newly discovered data, listening to the many specialists discuss the post-op; including unexpected higher level care that my mom will require. I had to go out on a limb and risk them being upset with me for soliciting help to alleviate as much worry as possible so they can both focus on the much-needed work necessary to get mom back on her feet.

With the many calls, emails and texts we have received; I realized that there are so many people in my folk's corner, cheering them on, and wishing them well and decided to make the command decision to launch a Go Fund Me account. Any funds that are collected will be used to assist with the medical and unexpected expenses of extended hospital stay, transfer to the Berkshires and additional weeks of rehab in a skilled nursing facility.
