Rosie’s Fighting Spirit – Please Help Us With Her IMHA Battle
Thank you so much to everyone who’s supported Rosie so far — your kindness, shares, messages, and donations have helped more than you know.
This update is really hard to write. Rosie has now been diagnosed with a serious, life-threatening condition called Immune Mediated Haemolytic Anaemia (IMHA). It means her own immune system is attacking and destroying her red blood cells, leaving her dangerously anaemic, jaundiced, weak, and struggling to breathe.
She was rushed to the vet with jaundice in her mouth and eyes, high temperature, laboured breathing and total exhaustion. She spent the night in intensive care on IV fluids, steroids and strong monitoring. Her blood tests showed an inflamed liver, dangerously low red blood cells, and dehydration. The vet believes this is not poisoning, but a sudden, aggressive autoimmune attack — a condition that Spaniels are sadly prone to.
She’s now home, but she’s far from out of the woods. Rosie is still jaundiced, shaky on her feet, emotionally flat, and exhausted after such a traumatic few days. Her breathing still worries me. She is on powerful steroids to try and save her red blood cells, and she’ll need close monitoring, follow-up blood tests, and possibly additional medications if complications develop (which they often do with IMHA).
The vet bills so far include:
• £280 initial care
• £24 consultation
• £35 x 2 blood test
• £100 overnight stay
• Ongoing medications, repeat testing, monitoring, blood works sent off for analysis
This is already over £400, and we’re only just beginning this long road.
I don’t like asking — but I can’t do this alone. If you’re able to donate, share, or simply send us your love, it means absolutely everything. Every penny will go directly to Rosie’s care and follow-up. And if you’ve ever loved a dog the way I love Rosie — you’ll understand why I’m fighting for her with everything I have.
Thank you for reading, for caring, and for helping.
With so much love,
Jane & Rosie
