At the young age of 35, our friend and colleague, Amanda, was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer found in her right breast in mid-November of this year. She was diagnosed after a routine mammogram, which she was receiving due to her extensive family history for breast cancer, thus making her high risk.
Amanda's type of cancer is triple positive: Estrogen receptor +, progesterone receptor + and HER2+. There is also lymph node involvement but thankfully, CT/bone scans are negative. HER 2 is considered a more aggressive cancer, but there are targeted immunotherapy drugs to treat it so Amanda and her family are hopeful for a good outcome.
Amanda's treatment course will include immunotherapy/chemotherapy every three weeks for a total of six treatment rounds, followed by double mastectomy and possibly radiation. Afterwards, immunotherapy continues every three weeks for the duration of one year.
Amanda and her family are grateful for any funds, which will be used for medical expenses, meals, transportation and help with childcare. Throughout her treatment, Amanda plans on continuing to work as able in order to save time off for her upcoming surgery.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read about our friend Amanda, and for your generous help.
