Hi, my name is Veronica, and I’m organizing this fundraiser for the devastation our family experienced.
On Sunday, November 9, 2025, at 7:55 a.m., we woke up to a nightmare: a severe flood pouring down from the apartment above us. Water soaked through the ceiling drywall for hours while we were asleep. It destroyed almost everything of value before there was even time to move any of our belongings to safety. Later, the fire department declared the unit uninhabitable, and we must now move immediately. Everything I owned was saturated and ruined. Our way of life instantly uprooted in seconds without any way of stopping it. We were helpless and hopeless.
This isn’t the first water issue in our apartment, and none were caused by us. I have worked really hard to keep a beautiful, tidy and clean home with quality furniture and nostalgic decor, but this flood took nearly all of it. I have worked seven days a week for as long as I can remember to make sure my family always had everything they needed. I felt so sick to my stomach knowing that I wouldn't be compensated for any of the loss. It ripped my heart out knowing that we are left with nothing. No home, no belongings, and no way to make the responsible people pay for it. Life can be so cruel and unfair. I would give anything to have protected my family better, but it was too late for us.
Compounding the blow, the only insurance connected to our apartment is the landlord’s policy, which doesn’t cover my personal belongings. The neighbors whose unit flooded ours does not have coverage that would compensate our losses either. So, who wins in this scenario? The Landlord of course, and my family and I are left with nothing! My whole livelihood completely ripped away by someone else's negligence.
Over the last year, I have already weathered a difficult marriage, separation and divorce. I faced a severe depression that followed with courage, and I still showed up every day for my son. I rebuilt my life. I kept going. Now, after this sudden disaster, I need help. I need my community. I have nothing left and I was hoping if everyone could pull together to spare just a little, it would turn this nightmare into a blessing. My quality of life would feel whole again and the things I worked so hard for would not be in vain.
We’re asking for $4000 to help replace essentials and relocate. Every dollar goes directly towards my family and rebuilding our life back to normal. You can't even imagine what this would do to help our situation and the trauma we have experienced.
