BRAVING THE SHAVE 4 CANCER (& my mum!)
Hi Everyone,
My name is Hannah and I will be shaving off alllllll my hair to support my mum whilst she battles stage 2 breast & lymph node cancer and to raise money for a charity that I really love - Coppafeel.
Coppafeel is a breast cancer awareness charity working to educate people on breast cancer, and how it can affect anyone, from teens through to old age and not only women but men too. Coppafeel strives to have cancer caught early by educating on how to check your breast/breast tissue, signs and symptoms as well as what to do should you find something a little abnormal.
I am so passionate about education around topics that are taboo such as mental health and sexual health and try to encourage those around me to have conversations about these topics too. I support coppafeel because they make the conversation around breast cancer super easy and even fun - their monthly 'check your boobs!' message I am signed up to never fails to make me giggle and reminds me I should be giving my body (esp boobs!) care and attention.
Now... the shave....my hair is such an important part of my identity and my personality, so the decision to shave it is a big jump for me! Every time I feel scared or stressed about chopping off my hair, I remember that my mum, and so many others going through cancer treatment, aren't able to choose wether or not they loose their hair and in fact I am very lucky to be able to choose to do this.
I hope my mum and anyone else loosing their hair through treatment or any other illness, will feel less alone in their journey as they fight their battles. You're all warriors.
