An Animal Abuser Burned Sabrina!!! Please Help!!

I was horrified to hear that my cousin Keara O’Connor’s beloved 7-month old kitten, Sabrina, was recently burned and abused by an animal abuser. Keara is now tending to Sabrina’s pain and trauma around the clock, and I hate to see her bear the extra stress of worrying about how she will pay the veterinary expenses that are adding up. While I can’t go across the country to offer support in person, I can come here to GoFundMe and raise funds to help ease Keara’s financial burden.

Half a year ago, Keara fell in love with an adorable black kitten that her mom, Sonja, was fostering as a volunteer for Española Humane in New Mexico. She couldn’t bear to see the kitten go to another home and adopted her as her own and took her back to her home in Brooklyn, NY.

Keara never imagined that half a year later, on April 22, 2023, she would come home from running errands to find her apartment broken into; a dangerously strong smell of gas coming from the gas stove (all 4 burners had been turned on and left on by whoever broke in!); and her beloved Sabrina hiding and trembling in fear and in terrible pain. Sabrina was limping on her hind limbs with bright red, burned paw pads. As reported in the veterinary ER discharge report, “While the cause is unknown, the injuries appear most consistent with thermal burns.” Sabrina was clearly abused and traumatized by whoever broke into her apartment. There are many unanswered questions, and a police investigation is underway.

In the meantime, Sabrina has been undergoing extensive veterinary examinations, diagnostic testing and treatment. She has had 2 ER trips (including an overnight ER stay) and a trip to her primary vet. Thankfully, X-rays ruled out any fractures to her little body. However, since the break-in, Sabrina is barely walking, needs to be carried to and from different places, defecating and urinating on herself, shaking with pain, and vocalizing in pain when she is touched. She continues receiving veterinary treatment for her pain management and healing of her burned paw pads.

Estimated upcoming veterinary expenses for continued care and healing (Vet wants to see Sabrina every 10-14 days for the next 2-3 months, at approx $300/visit): $1,200
