Kara & Steve Buell Flood Fund

Donation protected
My name is Lisa McClanahan and I am reaching out to you today on behalf of my little sister Kara and her husband Steve.

Their story: At 1:45am on Saturday morning, my husband and I got a frantic phone call from my sister, Kara.  All we could gather from those first few minutes where that she and Steve had been woken up by a neighbor and their house was flooding.  Kara and Steve have five resuce dogs and three cats.  During our initial conversation, Kara was beside herself because one of her cats was drowing and she quickly hung up.  She called back a few minutes later after they were able to successfully rescue the cat and she and the animals were in the back of a pick up truck trying to navigate out of the flooded waters to safetly.  Ultimately, they were able to reach dry land with only their animals and the clothes that they were wearing when they went to bed.  They've spent the last couple of days in an emergency Red Cross shelter waiting for the water to crest and recede at their home in Covington, Louisana.

This morning, Steve and Kara were able to make their first trip back into the home to see the extent of the damage.  They've lost all of their furniture, beds, mattresses and appliances.  It appears there was 2-3 feet of water in the house so sheetrock will need to be cut out above the water lines and be allowed to dry.  We don't know the extent of damage to the electrical system yet.  Some clothing will be salavage but most of their shoes and other personal belongings will need to be thrown out due to water that was contiminated by sewage.

Kara and Steve live in an area that does not require flood insurance, and is an area that is not known to flood, they did not have insurance to cover the cost of the loss that they've suffered!  Even their neighbor, who is an insurance adjuster, did not carry flood insurance!!  The replacement and repairs that will be needed will be up to them and here's where you can help!

We are trying to raise enough money to help with the following needs:
1.  Temporary housing (they think they will be in a hotel for the next 3-6 days).
2.  Supplies needed to tear out and replace all the structural damage to the house including sheetrock, doors, baseboard, cabinets, insulation and electrical wiring.
3.  Funds to replace, at the very least, a mattress and box spring so that they have a place to sleep.
4.  Funds to replace any appliances that no longer function (they are still trying to determine which ones) and funds to replace their furniture (they had just purchased a new dining table and chairs!!!).
5.  Funds to replace their shoes because all they've been able to save is a couple of pairs of flip-flops!!!

Kara and Steve have been through so much and I know that they would never ask for help.  That's why I'm asking for your help today!

We know that not everyone is in a place to financially contribute but we would still covet your prayers for them during this very difficult time!

Thanks so much for any help you are able to offer!!!
