If you know me, you know Owen.
Owen is my 11-year-old beagle, and I’ve had him since he was just a couple months old. He’s been with me since I was 20 years old and has been by my side through some of the hardest and most important moments of my life. Together we’ve lived in three different countries — Chile, Canada, and the U.S. Through every move, every heartbreak, every new chapter, Owen has always been there.
He’s not “just a dog” to me. I don’t have kids, and Owen truly is like my child. He is my best friend, my comfort, my ride or die, and honestly my whole world. Anyone who knows me well knows how much I love him.
Recently, Owen was diagnosed with prostate cancer. The news has been devastating. Because of the location of the tumor, surgery is unfortunately not an option. But after more testing, we received some hopeful news: the cancer has not metastasized to his lungs, and because he is otherwise in such good health, he has been declared a perfect candidate for radiation treatment.
The oncologist has also recommended chemotherapy alongside the radiation, as well as additional supplements to support his treatment and help give him the best possible chance moving forward.
The hardest part is that you would never even know he’s sick. He still has so much life in him. He still gets excited for walks, follows me everywhere, and looks at me with the same happy eyes he always has.
The costs have become overwhelming. Before even beginning treatment, there have already been expenses for blood work, ultrasound, specialist visits and x-rays. Now we are facing the cost of radiation treatment itself, which is our best chance at giving Owen more quality time and fighting this cancer.
As hard as it is for me to ask for help, I would do absolutely anything for him. If you are able to donate, share this page, or simply keep Owen in your thoughts, it would mean more than I can put into words.
Thank you for taking the time to read our story and for supporting my sweet boy, Owen.
