Please Help Launch Mimi's Future
Last week, a miracle happened. My beautiful daughter Mimi was accepted at The Forman School, a boarding school in Connecticut for students with substantial learning disabilities.
Mimi was awarded a generous scholarship. However, we still need an additional $18, 000 for next year’s tuition, as well as $18,000 for Mimi’s final year of high school. I cannot afford this amount on my teacher’s salary. I have therefore started this campaign for Mimi because she, like every young person, deserves a chance to succeed.
Forman is the gateway to Mimi’s dreams. She found the school herself online, motivated by the struggles she’s been having these past few years at a public high school in Cambridge. Mimi’s neuropsychological testing shows that she has many significant learning disabilities and school-related anxiety. Although Mimi has worked very hard in her co-taught and substantially separate classrooms, she continues to struggle in overcrowded classrooms with classmates who have social-emotional difficulties that disrupt the learning environment. Over the past two years, she has been regularly bullied, making school an unsafe place that Mimi fears.
. I believe that these last two years of high school are pivotal for Mimi. I believe that with the proper accommodations and differentiated instruction in small classes with teachers who are dedicated to helping students like Mimi access the curriculum, she will have a chance to go to college and to realize her dream of becoming a physical therapist or a nurse.
I appreciate with all my heart any amount that you can contribute to help give Mimi hope, a nurturing learning environment, and a future.
