If it wasn't for Bad Luck . . .

Hi, My name is Jason Groves; I've fundraised once before about 3 years ago when I was first diagnosed with an Ultra rare auto-immune disease called Mucus Membrane Pemphigoid. MMP for short is a blistering disease that produces painful blisters in mouth, throat and nasal passage. I also have a subsection of it called Ocular Cicatrizing Pemphigoid or OCP for short. This is the same disease but effects my eyes. It is currently progressing and without the proper treatment will keratinize my eyes and I will go blind.

*MMP affects about 1 to 2 people per million per year.

It typically shows up in women over 60.

Only about 25% of MMP cases are in men under 60.

Ocular involvement (OCP) occurs in 60–70% of cases.

Multi-site mucosal involvement (eyes and mouth and nasal passages and throat) is especially rare and poorly documented — but definitely puts me in a very small subset.

So, statistically speaking:

I’m likely 1 of about 75 to 175 men worldwide aged 50–59 with this particular manifestation.

Which means I’m roughly:

1 in 3 to 7 million.

So I've been dealing with that for some time now. It hasn't gotten better and only slightly worse as the medications I take for it have decidedly ruined the rest of my body. Prednisone is a wonder drug but is also Satan's tic tacs - IYKYK

So what's changed since then.. Financial disaster actually.

I'm on disability so I'm not getting much per month to survive anyways but now things have gotten unbearably worse.

Last week, I had someone remotely HACK my computer.. they got access to my Credit Card info, my paypal and bank account. They proceeded to charge about $1600 worth of goods through my bank account and that has devasted me.

I had to shut my bank account down (opened a new one now) my Credit Cards cancelled, my paypal accounts cancelled, etc. the list goes on.. I had to wipe my computer and on top of all that my 12 year old cat died.

It's going to be awhile to get everything back in order.. if it gets back in order but the bills keep piling up.

I'm going to consolidate my CCs as they are maxed out and there is no way I can bring them down on my measly Disability cheque each month. I need help. anything you can donate is fantastic... I'm truly in a bind and I don't see a way of getting out of it in my condition.

I'm also about to move onto another drug trial - this time Rituximab, which if not covered by my medical will cost around $2300 a vial. Wish me luck.. just no more of the bad stuff. Cheers.
