Victory Over Leukemia
Donation protected
My name is Carla. I am reaching out to help my sister and brother in law. My brother in law Bill was recently diagnosed with Leukemia. Testing is still underway for a final diagnosis and type of Leukemia. As with most who have been diagnosed with cancer, this was a big shock. There were no obvious signs and symptoms. Bill went to the doctor to ease my sister’s mind that he had a virus and all would be well in a few days. It was quite the shock to get a call saying he needs to go to the ER as his blood count was high which indicated Leukemia. Unfortunately it began over a holiday weekend, and it has been painful to wait for results of lab work. The doctor is about 90% sure it is Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Currently there is no cure, but they have come a long way in treatment and have some great oral medications which help stabilize and keep it at bay. He will likely need these medications the rest of his life. As you can imagine medications are not cheap and can become a burden financially. Even with insurance, the co-pay is $350 per month. It is difficult to ask for help. None of us like to do it. That is why I am stepping in. I will ask for them. We first ask for your prayers that they may have the strength to endure this trial and that we will see a positive effect from treatments. Second, a donation of any amount will go a long way and would be greatly appreciated. It will be used to pay for the hospitalization that has already occurred, long term treatment and for food high in nutrition and calories (which is also costly). A bone marrow transplant may also be necessary at some point. They both experienced a loss of a parent, due to cancer, at a young age and have a goal of ensuring their child has both parents to adulthood and beyond. Their spirits are high and they remain optimistic. Thank you for your concern and support. It is greatly appreciated.
