Colton is 14 years of age. About a year or so ago, Colton started complaining with lower back pain. At first we just brushed it off as growing pains. Then 5 months ago he fell on our stairs and his pain seemed to greatly increase. We took him to his pediatrician and she did X-Rays and said that everything looked ok and attributed his pain to a pinched nerve due to inflammation from the fall. From there the pain grew worse and he saw a chiropractor that did X-rays and said he thought he saw a compression fracture in his L5 vertebrae. We were then sent to an orthopedic surgeon who ordered an MRI. While we were at the imaging center the Dr. on site said that he saw a large tumor in his spinal canal. We were referred to a neurosurgeon since this tumor went beyond the orthopedics expertise. So now, let's fast forward to today and Colton has been admitted to Rady Children's Hospital and is awaiting surgery on Monday. The surgery will be at 7:30 Monday morning it is a very complex issue because the tumor has grown and entwined itself around some very serious nerves !! It will take a team of highly skilled doctors 5-7 hours to do what has to be done . We do not accept that it is cancerous but they have prepared us that there is a high possibility that he may need Raditation therapy after surgery to help take care of any of the tumor they may be unable to remove in order not to damage the nerves. This is a very major surgery and we need the best care possible at this time, and this is the reason we are in San Diego, CA for this surgery .We are expected to be here for up to one month....This is all in God's hands and the timing catches us a little off guard .. Being that just last month we decided to give ourselves to traveling full time ( Evangalizing ) .. We do have INS, but there is SO MUCH additional cost that has us a little worried right now. We are thankful for all that God has done so far with this issue, but ask if you could spare a little to help .... May God bless each of you.
