Stand in Her Corner
Nancy has written this for Shondala because she's shy. Shondala Edgerson. You may know her as a friend, co-worker or family member. If that’s the case, you know that she’s totally awesome-smart, honest, very hard working, great wife and Mom. She’s energetic, fun and gorgeous. If you know her, you treasure her. She’s been Samara’s best friend for years. If you don’t know Shondala, take it from me, you’ll wish you did. She’s an outstanding human being.
Shondala was recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. That’s a tough call since most breast cancer research has centered on estrogen positive breast cancers. She’s already started chemo and faces surgery soon and possibly more chemo and radiation.
In addition to the heavy side effects of chemo, she’s already had to work through tough obstacles like finding out that her health insurance wouldn’t cover her doctor’s recommended treatment, figuring out how to upgrade and pay for a more comprehensive insurance plan and treatment glitches. That’s just a sample of what Shondala has had to manage already. And she’s done it with great resourcefulness and integrity.
You’re getting this GoFundMe request because of what’s already in motion and what’s yet to come. In addition to chemo knocking out immunity, Shondala needed to have a port implanted to ease the chemo infusion. With those factors in the picture, she had to stop working her very physically demanding job as a LPN. Her husband, Bryan, has been working as many shifts as he can manage to try to keep the family going. He’ll have to stop that soon because Shondala is experiencing more intense fatigue and brain fog. She and the girls will need him to be home more now.
So, there’s way less money coming in and, if you’re familiar with treatment for any serious illness, there’s way more money going out. Each chemo treatment needs a $269 copay. You’re also prescribed a big bagful of other prescription meds each with a copay. You’re also scrambling to buy OTC side effect treating meds and assistive devices. As your system reacts more and more to the chemo, more and different foods and drinks are needed. Takeout meals are all you can manage.
Shondala and Bryan need more money. Please chip in. Let Shondala know that you’re in her corner. Anything that you can manage will make a real difference in the life of a very special woman and her wonderful family. Anything that you can give lets her know that she’s not walking this path alone. Thank you.
