Study Abroad in Greece
Donation protected
My name is Amelia. I go by AJ. I’m a freshman at IU Bloomington and I’m studying both astronomy/astrophysics and
physics with a minor in classical civilizations. My true dream would be to get a degree in classical studies. However, the work field for that is really only professors. So, I study my second passion, astronomy. My dream is to go to Greece. The American College of Greece is one of few that offers all the courses I would need to take.
Aristotle, one of the first recognized astronomers of the ancient world, was Greek. He also happens to be my favorite philosopher (another passion of mine—hence why I was philosophy club president in high school). My life has been consumed by Greek culture. Modern and ancient. Half of my course load this semester is about Greek traditions, religion, and society. I think my dedication and investment has been made clear. Going abroad would mean I get to study what I love, in the place of its origin. I can learn about ancient Greece in Greece!
I would love to learn about the culture of Greece by experiencing it. Almost an entire year of full submergence into Greek culture. Greek friends, Greek teachers, Greek neighbors. People who can teach me more than a measly class ever could.
Experiences that I can’t get anywhere else.
Studying abroad is so much more than taking an all too long plane trip across the
world, memorable photos, and good food. It is delving into a deep-rooted passion, and exploring the things you appreciate the most. Studying abroad isn’t taking classes in another country. It’s learning street smarts on a street you don’t even recognize. It’s breathing in and smiling at the sky because you just got your biggest dream since you were 8 years old. It’s taking so many photos that your camera roll gives you error messages and not deleting a single one because they’re all too important to ever let go of.
The money donated to help me fund this trip would be spent on the expenses for the entire school year I was there. My tuition is paid but I need help with the extra expenses not covered. I am also working while going to school full time to cover as much as I can on my own. Any help would be greatly appreciated as you can see this opportunity is everything to me!
