Mark and Lisa's medical bills

I can't believe I'm doing this but...it's been a tough year for my husband and I and we need your help!

In March of 2014, my husband and I went to Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN after a referral from a local surgeon from our area, for a week of medical appointments related to his ulceritis colitis/Crohn's disease. It was determined that he should have a sub-total colectomy.

His surgery was scheduled for May 27th, 2014 and we came down the day before to prepare for it. Recovery should have been 5-7 days but he had complications and couldn't eat or drink for 3 weeks after the surgery. Never would I have thought I would have to take 1 month off of work-unpaid- to be his support during this time along with all the expenses that come from being away from our home.

When we returned to our home on June 17th, 2014, we found our finished basement was destroyed from thunderstorms/power outage occurrences while we gone. It was tough to haul and throw out furniture, carpet and belongings while he was under strict orders not to pull, lift, drag, etc...due to his recovery. In all honesty, I told him that I would gladly go back to the hospital to escape the stress of coming home to the mess!

We, finally, had a handyman come in to start the rebuilding of the basement in October. It was at this time, that I had my annual mammogram. I received a follow up call from the doctor's office that they found a spot on my right breast mammogram that needed further analysis. In December, after more testing and a biopsy, we were informed that I had breast cancer and needed to prepare for surgery, radiation and possibly, chemotherapy.

The surgery was performed on January 2nd, 2015 at the Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo, ND.  I underwent an intense 2X/day week radiation treatment while staying at a Fargo hotel due to being told that this treatment was not available at our local hospital.

At this time, I have decided to forego chemotherapy after weighing the pros and cons of the benefits and long term effects.  I still have quarterly doctor appointments for monitoring the medicine I'm currently taking along with mammograms. My husband has a follow up at Mayo Clinic in June. We hope and pray that the rest of this year will be less stressful and enable us to return to a return to a normalcy that we long for.

We have always helped others and believe in paying our own way but we are overwhelmed by the costs that we've incurred though all of this. Any amount will be used to reduce our medical and other debts.
