Our 6 year old fur baby, Ozzy, had to have emergency spinal surgery this week to address a herniated disc in his back. A week ago he was his usual, sweet, loving self and then last night he was unable to use his two hind legs.
Ozzy became a member of our family 3 years ago. We adopted him from Rural Dog Rescue in Washington, DC. Ozzy is a beagle/husky mix who adds such joy to our lives. He loves all people and has never met a stranger. He also loves going on walks to sniff everything he can and he loves his dog friends here in DC. Ozzy has allowed us to meet new friends and is beloved by all who know him. We were not expecting such a large expense with him so early on and this has been such a shock to us.
In order to address his issue, Ozzy had to undergo an MRI which is especially expensive in dogs because they have to be given anesthesia. We were required to put down a $3,000 deposit before he even begun having his issue addressed. Once they completed the MRI, the neurologist thought that surgery would be the best course of treatment for him. Surgery would give them the quickest and most efficient chance at a full recovery. Otherwise we would have to bring him home and try pain management which could still end in surgery down the road. We chose to go ahead with surgery while he was already under anesthesia for the MRI.
I usually would not ask for help but we have already put a good chunk of this expense on our credit card and with surgery, we are already trying to figure out how we are going to be able to pay for it. The final total for his MRI and surgery will cost us around $8,000. There was no way that we were going to put him down this early in his life and made the decision to give him the best chance at a full recovery. Any and every little bit helps.
We will also be using this page to provide updates on Ozzy and his condition. We appreciate you all and are forever grateful for your support.
