Help give baby Karter a chance

A dear friend of mine is in need of some support, love and prayers.

Jessika, and her partner Ben, tried for a baby for many years. After successfully conceiving Jess and Ben unfortunately lost their first baby a few months into the pregnancy.

Then a little blessing occurred: they fell pregnant again! However, 6 weeks into their second pregnancy, Jess experienced some complications and was told at the emergency department that their was a high threat of miscarraige. After a quick scan they discovered she was carrying two babies and that she would need to be on bed rest for the remainder of the pregnancy. With that news, that is exactly what Jess did! She stayed on bed rest for 4 months and experienced many complications for 10 weeks straight, but never gave up on the positive thoughts of giving birth to her little babies and beginning her next chapter in life as a mother.

At 28 weeks Jessika's water broke and she was admitted to hospital where she was cared for and monitored. At 30 weeks the decision to deliver the babies was made as there was an infection and her little boys needed to be delivered. Jess was induced and little Karter was born first by forceps followed feet first by Chase.

Baby Karter and Baby Chase were finally here !

Karter was born with his left eye blackened and bruised. He had swelling to his entire face (although he was perfect to his mum and dad) not much was thought of this at the time. When the boys were 3 weeks old, Jess and Ben were told that Karter had a bleed on the left side of his brain which was they side his black eye was on. They were told that he may be slower in reading and writing as he grew up and that it was a very mild bleed. Of course they were upset but they came to terms with that, just knowing he would be a little slow and that learning to read and write would be more difficult for Karter was nothing that Jess and Ben felt they couldn't help him with.

It wasn't till they where transferred to another hospital they were first told about Cerebal Palsy (CP). They had to wait till after his actual due date ( 7th Jan 2015 ) to get the next MRI scan. After they did this, the doctor said that they would have to wait till he was about a year old to see the effects of the bleeding on the brain. Unfortunately though, the damage from the bleed has already been done. The new scan results have shown that Karter actually had significant bleed (grade 4) and that this would also effect the whole right side of his body.

Since that day Jess has noticed that Karter is developing differently to his twin brother Chase. Jess went to see her local GP (who always goes above and beyond for them) and he took their previous MRI scans to a brain specialist. After the specialist had looked over them, he told them it had affected Karter's whole body movement and communication. There was nothing they could do apart from pray, which of course they do single day and night.

Jess noticed that Karter had been tensing and asked her doctor if she could help him to relax. The doctor explained that Karter was actually experiencing regular spasms and since that day Jess has been taking Karter to a chiropractor twice a week which has been helping him significantly.

Jess and Ben have been told that they will NEVER hear their son speak or see their son walk.

Jess and Ben have refused to accept this and after extensive research have discovered that there is a way they can help their little man !!!

The treatment is called stem cell therapy and it is not available in Australia. The therapy is a 1 month treatment using stem cells to help rejuvenate the damaged brain cells. It also includes other treatments such as physiotherapy, massage, swimming etc to train the new cells to hopefully restore their functionality. The results have been great in the cases they have looked into. The first treatment is $36,000 and after this treatment if they have an improvement they can go back and build on the results with further treatment.

They are hopeful this will allow their baby Karter to enjoy the same quality of life as his twin brother, who would love nothing more to be able to play, grow and develop together.
