We see this happen every day, in every class, at every studio. We are blessed to have limitless opportunities to live out our dreams, but sadly, that is not the case for everyone.

There are more than 120 million girls living in poverty in Africa and globally and two-thirds of all children who are denied schooling are girls.



One Girl Can is a Vancouver-based charitable organization breaking the cycle of poverty and impacting gender inequality in Kenya through education and mentorship. The organization’s unique holistic model empowers a girl from the time she leaves primary school until the day she gains meaningful employment.

Without targeted interventions, the cultural and financial obstacles that prevent girls from accessing education will continue to trap them in a vicious cycle of generational poverty. We do this through three pillars: building schools, providing educational scholarships, and mentorship for long-term success in their chosen field of study.

One Girl Can was founded in 2008 by Lotte Davis. Growing up in South Africa during the apartheid era, she became acutely aware of the leg­acy of mistreatment and lack of opportunities for women. After estab­lishing a successful haircare business in Canada with her husband, she ultimately decided to fulfill a longstanding passion to address gender inequality and decided to create opportunity for girls in Africa through One Girl Can.
