Hello Friends, well wishers, colleagues and family,
With the second wave of Covid -19 devastating India, pictures and scenes of people gasping for oxygen are becoming too common. Like so many of us, you must be following the news and ask how can you help? Here is one way.
India's hospitals are experiencing an oxygen shortage and many people are dying not primarily from the impact of Covid but from the lack of oxygen :( For the past two weeks the "Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha" in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad (near Delhi) are providing round the clock care through "Oxygen Langar " where desperate families after being turned away from hospitals are driving in their hundreds to receive makeshift oxygen treatment to try to alleviate some of their agony. The community leaders are driving all over the country to source oxygen cylinders for the community at no charge to the people. Everyone regardless of creed, faith, and gender are able to access the "Oxygen Langar."
Unfortunately, the oxygen cylinders are running low and the community leaders are requesting monetary help. We also found out last night from talking with the leaders that many of the gurdwara leadership have also fallen ill with Covid. I spoke to the President last night, and he contracted covid serving others and is at high risk himself with diabetes and heart condition. This is truly selfless service what these folks have done for 1000+ patients thus far.
Here is news coverage of their work: Washington Post , BBC News , IndianExpress , NDTV .
We are reaching out to everyone in our circle and in our community with the call to action to join together to help make a difference to people in need. The money raised will go towards the purchase of oxygen concentrators, ventilators, nebuliser, refueling tanks, and their transportation. Due to the urgency of the situation, I hope to send some funds by the end of this week and more as we work towards our goal.
If you are fortunate enough to help - please do so. You will save lives. Also, please help by spreading the word.
Sandeep Giri.
On behalf of President of Gurudwara Indirapuram (near Delhi)
