Oxygen Concentrator for Joe

Meet Joe!

Hello everyone! This is my dad, Joe!

My Dad is one of the bravest, kindest, and strongest people I know. He spreads positivity and warmth wherever he goes and leaves a bit of light and love with everyone he meets. He’s a beautiful, genuine soul who looks a life as a gift!

...But he needs your help.

My Dad was diagnosed with a rare neurological disease called syringomyelia, alongside COPD in his 30s. Since then, his health has worsened as Syngromyelia can be very debilitating in rare cases, such as his. In a case such as my dad’s, Syringomyelia can cause pain that is comparable to terminal cancer in severity. The pain is nonstop and goes throughout his body. Despite the pain and the way his disease has affected his life, my Dad has been able to keep an amazing spirit and attitude.

However lately, even the most simple parts of life are becoming almost impossible.

Syringomyelia has caused the COPD that my Dad deals with and has therefore paralyzed part of his diaphragm and right lung. Because of this, my Dad needs supplemental oxygen 24/7, including when he sleeps. At the moment, my dad uses oxygen tanks but they are becoming unusable due to his health condition. It is difficult for him to use these tanks due to muscular atrophy in his hands (also caused by Syringomyelia), as he is unable to extend his fingers on either hand and therefore it is getting difficult and frustrating for him to manipulate the valves that regulate the oxygen flow. He also frequently drops the cart holding the tanks because it is awkward and heavy and his muscle mass has deteriorated extensively due to his disease.

As you can see, My Dad desperately needs an alternative soon to be able to live his life as fully as he can…

What we are asking for is any aid to help my Dad afford a portable oxygen concentrator such as a system called the Inogen 3. This system is known for its reliability and ease of use. It is carried over the shoulder and is lightweight (approx. 5 pounds). The battery for the Inogen 3 lasts up to 8 hours per charge which will provide the freedom for my Dad to go for short walks or even to go to the movies (one of his favorite activities). A shoulder carried concentrator will be incredibly helpful to my dad as well because he sometimes needs to use a hand-pushed cart for stability while walking and he isn’t able to push/pull the cart and carry his current tanks at the same time.

Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated! If you aren’t able to provide help, we ask that you please share this fundraiser with your friends and family.

Thank you and we hope that you have an absolutely wonderful day!
